This article is about how to create your listening search.

Updated over a week ago

Note: The Advanced Listening feature is available for purchase as an add-on at €/$40 per search. You can purchase this in your subscription window here.

1. Search Dashboard
2. Search Builder [You are here]
3. Search Results

The search builder will allow you to create your Listening searches with ease. To get started click on either the Create your first search orange button

or the Create new search button

When you open up the listening search builder, you will see the below screen with different sections. Please carry on reading for more information about each section.

1. Search details

The first section when creating your search allows you to do the following:

  1. Give your search a name. (this is mandatory)

  2. Add a description to your search so it provides context. (optional)

2. Search sources

This next section is where you can select which network you want to create a search from.

Requirement: To create a search query on a network, you must have a valid token and therefore a page/account of the social network connected to Agorapulse.

This will allow us to synchronize the Search content and also allow you to reply and interact with your listening results.

3. Search parameters

The next section of creating your search is setting your parameters. From here you can enter what you want to monitor on the selected social media channel(s). For example, when creating a listening search, you can choose from one of the following:

  1. Mentions of your pages/accounts connected to Agorapulse*

  2. Hashtags (this is only available on X/Twitter and Instagram)**

  3. Keyword (this is only available on X/Twitter, Web Blog and Web News)***

*If you are creating a Mention listening search, you will be able to select one of your Facebook Pages or Instagram accounts that is connected to Agorapulse.

**When creating hashtag searches for Instagram, a maximum of 30 is allowed in total for all searches.

***We will display posts that precisely match the entered keyword. For instance, if you search for "Agora pulse," only posts matching this exact term will be shown, not variations like "Agorapulse.". Also when using the And button, we will only display the post if both of the keywords match. If only one matches, this will not be synced into your listening results.

It is also possible for you to exclude some items from your search. For example, on Facebook, you can exclude mentions and on Instagram, you can exclude mentions and hashtags.

When you are happy with your search you can use the Save search button.

4. Geographic and language filters (optional)

The final section of building your listening search is deciding if you want to set any geographic or language filters. Doing this will allow you to fine-tune your search by filtering items by the filters you apply.

  1. Languages of the items

  2. Countries of origin

It is possible to select multiple languages and countries to fine-tune your search to your liking.

Note: This is only available on Web news and Web blog sources.

Important information

Storage policy

We store synchronised items for 60 days in our database. This means if you delete a search, and then create it again:

  • Within 60 days, with their original parameters, the listening items will appear again immediately.

  • After 60 days, the items will be synced like it was a brand new search and at a minimum 30 of the 60 days of back data will be lost.

Stop word management

When it comes to words such as "the" and "and", these are not supported as standalone search parameters for Twitter/X. For example, if you create a search with the keyword parameter "if" and then a separate keyword parameter "nike jordans", only the search parameter "nike jordans" will return search results.

Twitter/X Synchronization limits

When first creating a search, we will fetch the last 300 posts matching the search parameters. For example, if 300 posts match the parameter keyword "Jordans" in the past 7 days, then only 7 days' worth of backdate will be synced for that search.

Once the search is created, we will synchronize a maximum of 4500 Twitter/X posts per month.

Web news and Web blogs

  • Data is refreshed once per day for both News and Blog articles

  • We return the last 30 days of articles/blogs when a search is created.

  • We return an unlimited number of News Articles per search over the past 30 days but Blog articles are limited to the last 250 published

  • We will not sync any results from Reddit.

  • Forum search is not possible.
