Competitors Report Explained

Add or remove competitors in order to compare key audience and content metrics!

Agorapulse’s Competitors report allows you to keep up-to-date with any chosen Instagram or Facebook profile through an analysis of key content/profile metrics. You can use these metrics to compare with benchmarking criteria, in order to keep a pulse on your chosen social media landscape.

The Competitors report is only available for Instagram or Facebook profiles. More information on selecting a reporting period is available here.



Who can use the Competitors feature?

The Competitors Report will only be available to users on a PPU (price per user) or Custom plan. The amount of included competitors will depend on what kind of subscription plan you have:

  • Standard: 1 competitor profile

  • Professional: 1 competitor profile

  • Advanced: 6 competitor profiles

  • Custom: 1 competitor profile

Additional competitors can be added on to your subscription.

Please Note: If you would like to utilize the Competitors report or increase the number of competitors you are able to add, please feel free to reach out to us here or edit the Competitors add on in the subscription settings.



How to view the Competitors report

To view/access the Competitors report from the Reports tool:

  1. Select a Facebook or Instagram profile from the left-hand navigation menu under Social profiles

  2. Click on the Competitors tab on the top of the screen

We will outline how to add/remove a competitor and each section included in the Competitors report below.



How to add or remove a competitor

From the Competitors tab in the Reports tool, you can add a competitor by following the steps below:

  1. Select the Manage competitors on the top-right

  2. Click + Add competitor

  3. For Facebook competitors, enter the URL of the Facebook page
    or
    For Instagram competitors, enter the Instagram username

  4. Click Add

You will now see this profile added to your list of competitors.

Note: Only Owners or Managers can add a competitor. After adding a competitor please allow time for the competitor to be loaded into the report.

To remove/disable a competitor from the Competitors tab in the Reports tool:

  1. Select Manage competitors

  2. De-select the toggle next to the competitor you want to disable
    or
    Click the trash icon next to the competitor you want to delete

De-selecting the competitor will remove the competitor from your report and deleting the competitor will remove it entirely.


Competitors benchmark

The Competitors benchmark section of the Competitors report allows you to compare the metrics from your profile to any added competitors side-by-side within the selected reporting period.

Metrics include:

  • Fans (Facebook)/Followers (Instagram) - Number of fans/followers as of the last day of the selected reporting period

  • Profile posts - Number of posts published within the selected reporting period

  • Total engagement - ​Sum of engagements generated by posts published within the selected reporting period. This includes likes and comments. Shares are not included as they're not fully public data, and can be hidden if the profile decides not to make it visible

  • Average engagement by post - ​Total engagement divided by number of total posts


Top content

The Top content section of the Competitors report shows the 6 best-performing posts from all profiles included in your list of competitors within the selected reporting period.

You can choose to sort the Top content list by number of Likes, Comments, Shares (Facebook only) or Engagement.

Metrics include:

  • Likes - Number of likes on the post

  • Comments - Number of comments on the post

  • Shares (Facebook) - Number of times the post has been shared

  • Total engagement - Likes + Comments + Shares (Facebook)



Audience

The Audience section of the Competitors report shows the change in total number of followers within the selected reporting period.

You can click on the name of the competitor within the legend in order to remove or re-add it to the graph. You also may hover a specific date in order to see daily results.

Metrics include:

  • Total fans/followers - Number of fans/followers on a given day in the selected reporting period


Publishing

The Publishing section of the Competitors report shows the the number of posts published by type for each competitor within the selected reporting period.

You may hover a specific date in order to see daily results.

Metrics included:

  • Reels (Instagram) - Total number of reels published within the selected reporting period

  • Carousels (Instagram) - Total number of carousel posts published within the selected reporting period

  • Videos (Instagram and Facebook) - Total number of video posts published within the selected reporting period

  • Photos (Instagram and Facebook) - Total number of photo type posts published within the selected reporting period

  • Links (Facebook) - Total number of link type posts published within the selected reporting period

  • Texts (Facebook) - Total number of text posts published within the selected reporting period

  • Total posts (Instagram and Facebook) - Total number posts published within the selected reporting period


Engagement per post type

The Engagement per post type section of the Competitors report shows the volume of engagement per post type, for posts published by each competitor within the selected reporting period.

Metrics included:

  • Reels (Instagram) - Total engagement for Instagram reels

  • Carousels (Instagram) - Total engagement for Instagram carousel posts

  • Videos (Instagram and Facebook) - Total engagement for video type posts

  • Photos (Instagram and Facebook) - Total engagement for photo type posts

  • Links (Facebook) - Total engagement for Facebook link type posts

  • Texts (Facebook) - Total engagement for Facebook text posts

  • Total engagement (Instagram and Facebook) - Total engagement for all post types


Engagement

The Engagement section of the Competitors report shows the volume of engagement for posts published by each competitor within the selected reporting period.

Metrics included:

  • Likes - Total number of likes for posts published within the specified reporting period

  • Comments - Total number of comments for posts published within the specified reporting period

  • Shares (Facebook) - Total number of shares for posts published within the specified reporting period

  • Total engagement - Likes + Comments + Shares (Facebook)


What competitor data is available?

The Competitors feature is only available for Instagram and Facebook profiles. Below we will explain what data is included in the Competitors report.

What post-types are included in the Competitors report?

We include data from the following types of post:

  • Photo Posts (Facebook and Instagram)

  • Video Posts (Facebook and Instagram)

  • Reels (Instagram)

  • Carousel Posts (Instagram)

  • Link-type Posts (Facebook)

  • Text Posts (Facebook)

Note: Data for Stories and Reels (Facebook) are not available within the Competitors report.


What historical data is included in the Competitors reports?

Historical data for competitors is dependent on the specific data point.

  • Fans/Followers will have no historical data. This will be tracked stating the day the competitor has been added.

  • Posts data will sync back 30 days prior to when the competitor was added.

Please Note: We will update the data for posts published within the last 30 days (the same mechanism as in the content report). After 30 days, posts data is not updated anymore.
